Melbourne born to migrant parents, Gary graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry. He proceeded to initially work in the Goulburn Valley region of rural Victoria, in places such as Shepparton, Mooroopna and Cobram. After a few years, Gary returned to his hometown of Melbourne to work in suburbs like Narre Warren South, Doncaster and Oakleigh with some locum work in Drouin. Furthermore, Gary took opportunities to travel to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in various volunteer dental programs, from treating disadvantaged youths, providing oral health education to simple triaging to support the local dentist staff.
After his experiences in both the public and private sectors, Gary proceeded to start his venture at Bay Road Dental Centre in Sandringham, VIC. He has been the Principal Dentist and proud owner of Bay Road Dental since 2016, having succeeded Dr Greg Snell.
Gary’s philosophy in dentistry is simple: to treat all patients how he or his family member would like to be treated. “Dentistry has come a long way. I recall my childhood dental clinic being a bit cold and outdated. So after becoming a dentist myself, I wanted to ensure that my clinic made the whole patient EXPERIENCE the number one priority. Having modern technology, and a comfortable environment makes Bay Road Dental a more calming place.”
Gary finds all aspects of general dentistry enjoyable - he really does! However, his particular interests can be narrowed down to dental implants, clear aligners, cosmetic dentistry and children’s dentistry. He is particularly passionate about preventative dentistry, including oral health education. Nothing is more satisfying than providing a new patient or anxious child an opportunity to walk away with a positive experience in the dental chair.
Gary continues his professional education through professional seminars and has been a lifelong member of the Australian Dental Association. He has undertaken a plethora of courses, more recently with Straumann Clear Correct, Dentistry and Implantology Academy (DIA) and is further entrenching his skills with a fellowship with the Australasian Implant Academy (AIA). On top of this, he oversees the QIP Accreditation process with his team at Bay Road Dental to ensure best practice standards are maintained day to day at the clinic.
Outside of dentistry, Gary is a family man - he is proudly married and has two beautiful children, which consume all his time after work - “but trust me, I wouldn't want it ANY other way!” Gary is a sports fanatic, from F1 car racing to NBA basketball…but his first true love has to be AFL and the mighty Geelong Cats! Gary speaks Teo Chew Chinese, and he says he is still working on his Mandarin.
