Tooth decay – I blame my genes!

Posted on: September 18 2017

The popular theory that tooth decay is inherited may very well be a myth, according to a new study from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute.

The study, which involved 485 different sets of twins, analysed the oral microflora of these children who shared the same age and same environment. While it proved that some bacteria was inherited from their parents, these were not the same bacteria that are responsible for tooth decay.

This confirms the general rule that the best way to combat tooth decay is with a good diet and responsible oral hygiene.
